The importance of Yogi Bhajan’s title

In an interesting coincidence, a well written article has just come out that echo’s our recent satirical post about ‘the Siri Singh Sahib Corporation’. In an excellent article by Philip Deslippe and Stacie Stukin, How “Siri Singh Sahib” Yogi Bhajan Created An Empire they detail how important Yogi Bhajan’s title “the Siri Singh Sahib” was in establishing his legitimacy within Sikhism and the role it played in his businesses, allowing him to establish a “corporation sole“. This is a legal entity “designed to ensure continuity of ownership of property dedicated to the benefit of a legitimate religious organization. A taxpayer cannot use a corporation sole created to avoid or evade income taxes as a means to exclude the taxpayer’s personal income from tax.”
